Our anti-NLRP3 antibody in head and neck cancer study

Chen L, Wan SC, Mao L, Huang CF, Bu LL, Sun ZJ. NLRP3 in tumor-associated macrophages predicts a poor prognosis and promotes tumor growth in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Cancer Immunol Immunother. 2023 Jun;72(6):1647-1660.

NLRP3 (NOD-like receptor pyrin domain-containing protein 3) is a protein that plays a key role in the immune system by participating in the formation of inflammasomes, which are involved in the body's inflammatory response.

The NLRP3 inflammasome plays a significant role in cancer development and progression, promoting tumor growth, metastasis, and immune evasion. Activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome leads to the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, contributing to tumor growth and progression.

A study by Lei Chen et al, (2023) analyses the role of NLRP3 in tumor-associated macrophages and its impact on tumor growth and prognosis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).

The results suggest that NLRP3 is involved in the tumor environment of HNSCC, particularly in in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs).

The anti-human NLRP3 polyclonal antibody (HPA012878) from Atlas Antibodies was used for staining in human HNSCC tissues.

In the staining results, NLRP3 was found to be highly expressed in the stromal cells of HNSCC tumors. The intensity of NLRP3 staining was much higher in the tumor stroma compared to normal mucosa and dysplasia tissues. Additionally, NLRP3 was detected in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) in HNSCC samples, and its expression was linked to the number of TAMs present.

Immunofluorescence using the anti-human NLRP3 polyclonal antibody (HPA012878) helped visualize and locate NLRP3 within TAMs in these samples.
